Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Summer vacation tends to bore kids especially when they are stuck at home watching cartoons or playing in their room alone. You can make summer vacation a fun and productive time for your kids by keeping them busy with summer activities. Here are summer activities that you may want to suggest to your kids. • Build sand castles: Take your kids to the beach and let them build their own sand castle. Kids love doing things on their own, because they love the idea of accomplishing things. And building their own sand castle without your assistance helps them to be confident and proud of their abilities.• Make a time capsule: This can help your kids build their dreams about their future. Let your kids write about their wishes, dreams and goals that they want to accomplish years from now. Buy colored paper and pens so your kids can be creative with their time capsule project. • Learn to play a musical instrument: Ask your kids about their favorite musical instruments and enroll them in a music class. This can help your kids develop their skills and potentials. Show them your support and encouragement by watching them play their musical instruments. • Read a book: Get your kids into reading by buying them books that are interesting and informative. Ask them about the topics that they like so that you will know what books to buy. • Write a letter to grandma and grandpa: Try postcard printing so your kids can send personalized postcards for their grandparents. You can use their recent school photos for the layout of your print postcards so they can share them with grandpa and grandma.• Adopt a dog: Teach your kids how to be responsible at an early age by adopting a dog for them. Tell them about their responsibilities as a pet owner like bathing, feeding and walking their dog.

It can be a challenge for parents to entertain their children in the summer. School is out, learning has stopped, and play mode is in full swing. Sending your children to summer camps can be expensive and only last a week or so which makes that option a temporary fix. Family vacations are also fun summer activities, but like summer camps they only last a limited amount of time and can be too expensive for some families. There needs to be activities for your children to do when they aren’t on vacation or at a camp. For families that live in places where the temperatures reach the triple digits, it can be difficult to find an activity to occupy your children during the day when playing inside is the only option. When looking for inside toys and games to beat the summer heat, look for learning toys and games. Parents want play time to be fun and educational.

A lot of inside toys are designed as learning toys. When looking to buy your children inside toys, good choices to consider are building blocks, puzzles, or small play sets. Building blocks are a great choice because they allow your children to let their imaginations go wild. They can be used to build tall city sky scrapers, doll houses, and train stations among other things. Blocks can be used to count, learn basic math like addition and subtraction, learn colors, and some even have alphabet letters on them. Puzzles come in hundreds of different sizes, shapes, pictures, and are even put together to become 3D. If you want to buy a puzzle that your children can have fun putting together while learning at the same time, look for puzzles that have pictures of maps, historical sites, or famous land sites like the Grand Canyon.

If it’s not too hot for your children to play outside, there a lot of fun games and activities that can be entertaining as well as educational. A fun way to connect with your children is to teach them games you played as a kid like hop scotch or tetherball. You can create fun scavenger hunts for your children to do outside that can also be educational. Use clues that they can learn from. If you have the time, and there is a state park near you, take your children on a hike. A lot of hiking trails have information stops that explain wildlife that habitat the area or about plants and trees in the park. There is so much to do outside that you should save money for buying inside toys.

Summer days tend to be long and hot and one fantastic idea for entertainment is to set up an inflatable water park in your backyard. Consider purchasing an inflatable if you don’t already have one. The prices are reasonable and you will own it for years of use. It’s a better option than renting, plus you can be flexible with it’s use if the weather is not cooperating. Take a look at the brands of Blast Zone and Kidwise. Both companies have been making these big toys in several different styles and price ranges. Look for a unit that can be used wet or dry as this gives you more play value for the dollars spent. To ensue the safety of children and increase the longevity of the toy the manufacturers will have a maximum number of users at the same time and a weight limit. Children using the inflatable at the same time will have to be monitored so tell the kids to take turns and be patient as they wait. These companies include the blower, stakes, and repair kits in the boxes when you make a purchase. Plus, Blast Zone offers a 90 day warranty on the bouncer and one year on the blowers. Kidwise also has a one year warranty on the blower and a 30 day warranty on the bouncer.

On those extremely hot days bring out the garden hose and in minutes you can inflate the bouncers and start the fun. Unbearably warm days are the perfect time to bring out the inflatable waterparks for kids to cool off with. Most have easy set up instructions and they inflate in a few minutes. Simply attach the hose, turn on the water so the sprayers start up and let the party begin. The inflatable needs to be staked down and the blower will run continuously while the kids are playing. These fantastic toys will entertain youngsters all summer long. The best part is that you do not have to pack up the children, drive to a local beach, pool or water park which saves on gas, time and admission fees. These residential inflatable water parks are very affordable and very durable to ensure you get your moneys worth out of them. Many of the inflatable water parks have one to two slides, wading pools, and some even have small bouncer area that is included. Having a wading pool at the bottom of the slide is another fantastic feature because the children can hang out there. It is also the perfect spot for Mom and dad to supervise the kids. Easily add colorful plastic play balls into the wading pool and toddlers will have a blast. Ball pits are a favorite activity plus you have the added benefit of using them wet or dry during the season.

Another great way to cool off is playing in the sprinkler. You can water the lawn at the same time which will help off set the price of water. Playing in the water is refreshing for everyone. Family time can include this activity and the kids will laugh when they see mom and dad running through the sprinkler.

Create a summer activity for the whole family to enjoy such as planting a garden with your children. This can be a great family project which will encourage the kids to take ownership plus you will be spending quality time together. You can plant a vegetable, herb, or flower garden together. If you don’t have the space in your yard for a big garden, consider planting smaller items like cherry tomatoes in a smaller pot. Youngsters will enjoy watching as the plants come to life and you can harvest the crop. Let the children be responsible for the watering of the plants and of course weeding if necessary.

Whatever fun backyard activities you choose for your children during the summer time, please remember to take plenty of water breaks and keep everyone hydrated. Make sure they have plenty of sunscreen on and don’t forget to take a break from the sun. Shade is good and offers instant relief from the sun. Exercise is important and with these types of activities your kids won’t even realize they are exercising!
